Search as we have known it for the past 20 years is changing rapidly. Users are increasingly receiving ready-made answers generated by artificial intelligence tools – ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Perplexity, Copilot and others.

In this context, the term AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is increasingly being used, an approach that helps content find its way into AI-generated answers.

What is AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)?

AEO is a content optimization approach that focuses on enabling artificial intelligence systems to understand, structure and use as a source of answers. Unlike traditional SEO, where the main goal is to get clicks, the goal of AEO is completely different – to become reliable source of information, which the AI chooses to quote or summarize in its responses.

Why is AEO becoming particularly important right now?

Both Google and OpenAI have publicly stated that AI-generated answers will become a central part of the search experience. Google’s AI Overviews already provide a summary to the user, often without opening a web page. This significantly reduces traditional click-through rates, but increases competition for which source is used to generate the answer.*
